Uncle SamAntics

Inspired by the lives of Frederick Douglas, Octavious Cato,  Ted Landsmark, and the fictional character, Dan Freeman (The Spook Who Sat by the Door), Uncle SamAntics is an invisible man, trying to make himself visible by calling attention to the democratic process.

On the Sunday before the 2018 election, along with the West Powelton Street Drum Squad, Uncle SamAntics stepped, danced, stopped traffic, spread love and encouraged the people of Belmont to feel the energy and get out the vote.

On Election Day, the polling station at the Sara Allen Retirement Home was visually empty. There were no campaign signs or the kind of election ephemera you would expect to see to ensure people knew where to vote.

Uncle SamAntics jumped at the opportunity to vote in character and stick around so the community knew where to exercise their freedom.
